Golf Courses Emerald Coast Florida

Golf Courses Emerald Coast Florida
The Emerald Coast doesn’t get the same golf press as Orlando or Ponte Vedra, but it should. The stretch of Northwest Florida running from Pensacola east to Panama City Beach has over 20 courses, several of which rank among the best public layouts in the Southeast. Fred Couples, Rees Jones, Arnold Palmer, Robert Trent Jones II — this coast has collected legitimate design pedigree.

A few that consistently top the regional rankings:
Kelly Plantation Golf Club in Destin, designed by Fred Couples and Gene Bates, plays 7,099 yards along Choctawhatchee Bay with back-nine water views that are among the best on the Gulf Coast. Golf Digest gave it 4.5 stars.
Regatta Bay Golf & Yacht Club, also in Destin, offers a Robert C. Walker layout through coastal marshland, renovated in 2019. The par-3s here are some of the finest individual holes on the coast.
Burnt Pine Golf Club at Sandestin in Miramar Beach is the prestige option — a Rees Jones design that Golf Magazine called the “Crown Jewel of Florida Golf.” Access requires resort stay or membership, but it’s worth the effort.
Shalimar Pointe Golf Club near Fort Walton Beach is the best-kept secret on the coast — a Dye-Finger design on Choctawhatchee Bay that draws strong reviews from locals and visitors who find it.
Lost Key Golf Club near Pensacola is an Arnold Palmer design on Perdido Key, the westernmost significant course on the Emerald Coast, with a narrow, wetland-lined layout that rewards precision.
Planning Advice
The best golf window on the Emerald Coast is October through April. Heat and humidity peak from June through August; early morning tee times are the practical solution. Most courses are within 45 minutes of each other along Highway 98, so you can stay anywhere from Pensacola Beach to Destin and access the full range without major logistics.
For vacation planning, the Destin–Miramar Beach corridor offers the densest combination of quality courses, lodging, dining, and beach access. If budget is a priority, Pensacola’s public options — particularly Marcus Pointe and Scenic Hills — deliver quality at significantly lower green fees.
